The 2011 Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge was launched on May 6, 2011, at the Connecticut State Library in Hartford. Governor Dannel P. Malloy and State Librarian, Kendall Wiggin were on hand to stress the importance of reading during the summer and to recognize the top-performing schools from the 2010 Summer Reading Challenge. Schools compete based on student population and grade level. The program identifies the schools with the highest participation, the highest books-per-student count (kindergarten-Grade 5),

Connecticut's Nutmeg Book Award

The Nutmeg Book Award encourages children in grades 4-8 to read quality literature and to choose their favorite from a list of ten nominated titles. Jointly sponsored by the Connecticut Library Association (CLA) and the Connecticut Association of School Librarians (CASL), the Nutmeg Committee is comprised of children's librarians and school library media specialists who are members of our sponsoring organizations.
