| PTO SPONSORED ACTIVITIES |
| There are many events that the LSS PTO sponsors throughout
the year. Here are just a few of these events: If you have questions about the above programs, please call Michelle Spadaccini at 875-5759 or Joe Culos at 872-1922. |
| Programs and Assemblies
–With input from the teachers and administrators, a wide variety of programs
and assemblies are chosen and brought into the school by the PTO that
reinforces and enhances the students’ education. We include programs in
all areas including science, history, music and art. We also bring in
programs that address social, environmental and health issues. Roughly
three to four programs per grade are scheduled throughout the year as
well as a few multi-grade assemblies. (List of programs
and assemblies is at the bottom of this page.) |
| Field Trips – Field Trips are fun, educational
treks that provide children wonderful learning opportunities outside of
the classroom. Due to town wide cuts in field trip funds, the LSS PTO has
increased the financial assistance we give to Lake Street School to help
each grade level with field trip expenses. |
| Paws to Read Program - An all year reading
program geared to promoting daily reading in each grade level. Students
read 15 minutes a day and fill in a calendar to record their reading. Parents
and students sign the calendar and turn it in monthly for students to receive
a small gift as a reward for their accomplishment. |
| Snowflake Fair – This is an all volunteer,
not-for-profit holiday store for children to purchase gifts for their families.
Held in early December, all items available for purchase range from $0.25
to $3.00. Students eagerly look forward to this event each year. |
| Family Fun Nights – Family Fun Nights are
FREE events hosted by the PTO. Family Fun Nights bring together parents,
students and faculty for an evening of fun! |
| Welcome Back Social – This fun FREE event
is a combined effort between Lake Street School and the PTO to help welcome
children, their parents and the faculty back to school. |
| Fifth Grade Recognition – The PTO partners
with Lake Street School to celebrate 5th graders’ achievements. |
| Yearbook – The PTO subsidizes the majority
of the cost of the yearbooks so every child can have one at the end of the
year for friends to sign and for memories to keep. |
| Summer Reading Books – The PTO supplies
each child with a book to help get them off to a good start with the Summer
Reading Program. |
| BEST Program – To help celebrate the students
BEST accomplishments, the PTO provides wristbands to memorialize their special
day. |
| Hospitality - The PTO provides luncheons
and buffets for various staff functions during the year to show our appreciation
for all that they do. |
| Retirements/Sunshine – The PTO recognizes
teachers and staff who are retiring by having a scheduled gathering to thank
them for all that they have done for our children. The PTO also makes donations
on behalf of the LSS families for staff memebrs who have a major event in
their lives (births, weddings, deaths, etc.). |
| Teacher’s Reimbursement Program – Each teacher
can apply to the PTO for reimbursement of up to $75.00 for classroom supplies
they purchased. |
| The C. Arthur Mattson Scholarship
Award – A $1000.00 award for college expenses is given to
a graduating senior of Rockville High School who
went to Lake Street School for at least three years, and who exemplifies
citizenship, leadership and scholarship. |
| Project Graduation – The PTO donates money
each year to this Rockville High School event. |
| Playground Equipment – The PTO purchase balls, hula-hoops etc for the students to use during recess. |
