President’s

next PTO meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 12th not
November 18th. The Harvest
Fair was a success and thanked everyone for their help.
Buckland
Hills Mall: There will be an “Evening of Giving” held in
November. The tickets will cost $5.00
per person. The tickets will be sent
home with the students. There will be
discounts at every store and there will be door prizes to win. When you hand in your receipts, LSS will
receive bonus points.
Harvest
Fair: Lori Barselau and Pam Oliva thanked everyone
who volunteered at the Harvest Fair. If
anyone has any suggestions or comments for next year, please let us know. Mrs. Merrow made a comment that the crafters
were very happy with the assistance they received from the greeters who helped
them.
Fall
Fundraisers: (a)
The Meadow Farms fundraiser went well.
156 students sold items and four students made cash donations. 48% of the students participated. 15,746 items were sold and LSS made $8,000

which we will receive in December.
(e) Schoolpop - A written report was

Homeroom
Parents: Pam Moody reported that all homeroom parents
have been notified. A list of the
homeroom parents was distributed. It
was mentioned that homeroom parents should be more involved in the PTO and be
active in helping with putting the yearbook together. There are disposable cameras in each classroom so when events are
taking place and whoever is helping with the event should take pictures.
Pawprints: Wayne Woodtke reported that everything is going well. If you have an item you want in the
newsletter, he would like the item by the 20th of each month.
Education: Julie Marcotte reported that the Education Committee applied for
a grant with the Connecticut Commission for the Arts for two
Artist-in-Residence programs. One
program is the school-wide mural and the other is the photography program for
the fourth graders. We were awarded a
grant of $888.00 toward those programs.
Playscape: Julie Marcotte indicated that the last Krispy Kreme fundraiser
raised $533 for the playscape. We
received a grant in the amount of $1,000 from Wal-Mart. Kristine Lajeunesse reported that the Joey
& Maria’s Comedy Italian Wedding fundraiser is off to a good start. We have six full tables reserved. There are partial tables reserved. Maneeley’s is also advertising for this
event and flyers have been distributed.
Website: Dave Murray reported that a prototype draft has been set up and
the website should be up and running soon.
Treasurer’s
Report: The budget report was presented.
Community
Service - Thanksgiving Baskets: Each class
will be given a family in need. At the
parent/teacher conferences, there will be a sign up sheet to indicate what you
want to bring in for the Thanksgiving basket.
We will need the homeroom parents to help get these baskets
together.
Principal’s
Report: Steve Casavant distributed the new report
cards. He also distributed examples of
how the testing is performed on the Connecticut Mastery Tests.
NEW
BUSINESS:
A
motion to donate the $725.00 in profits from the Bolles Motors “drive for the
kids” event at the Harvest Fair towards the Playscape was passed.
Mrs.
Merrow reported that the “Blast Off To Reading” logs will be coming home
soon.
Terry
Tomaszweski reported that the Snowflake Fair begins December 1st. The Snowflake Fair allows the students to
shop for very good quality gifts for their families at inexpensive prices. They will be looking for volunteers to help
with this event.
At
the next PTO meeting, they will be showing the Escape School video (it lasts
about 20 minutes) that was recently shown to the students. This video shows students how to avoid
abductions.
Julie
Marcotte reported that the school is looking into a program called “How to
Defeat a Bully Without Fighting.” This
bullying segment is hosted by a Marshal Arts Development Program that comes
into the school to show students techniques on how to avoid confrontations with
bullies. They will show you the proper
tools and strategies to handle bullying situations without fighting back. More information on this will be sent
home.
The
meeting was adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
