Lake Street School PTO Meeting

December 16, 2003

The meeting was called to order at 7:07 p.m.

President’s Report:  Ellen Skoly first thanked Darlene Murray and Terry Tomaszewski for the wonderful job they did in coordinating the Snowflake Fair.  She also informed us that she will be looking into the Rock Cats family night event and will get information out to the LSS families soon.  Budget meeting schedules were distributed.

LSS Mural:  Jennifer DiTommaso informed us that they received over 300 drawings from students for the mural.  Everything is going well but they are still looking for volunteers to oversee this event.  The painting of the mural will begin the week of January 5th and a notice will be sent home to inform parents of this and to dress their children appropriately.  They are still in the deciding phase as to where this mural should be displayed at the school.

Treasurer’s Report:  The budget report was presented.

Snowflake Fair:  Darlene Murray wanted to remind everyone that this fair is not a fundraiser.  She made a motion to take the extra money that the fair made this year and put it towards the fair for next year.  The motion was voted on and passed.  Terry Tomaszewski said the Snowflake Fair was a huge success and thanked everyone for their time and donations in making the fair a success.

Website:  Dave Murray just wanted to remind everyone who is on a school committee that the website is a great way to solicit school activities and to keep everyone informed of the status and updates of school happenings.  You can e-mail your updates to Dave or Paul Rouleau.  The website is www.lss-pto.com.

November 2003 Minutes:  Ellen Skoly made a motion to pass the November minutes.

Parent Group Conference:  Darlene Murray informed us of a Parent Group Conference that is sponsored by PTO today that is taking place the end of April, beginning of May, in Boston.  It is a two day conference.  At the conference there will be scheduled seminars and an exhibit hall with information regarding fundraisers, school family events, etc.  She passed around a brochure about this event and if anyone is interested in attending, please contact her.

Pawprints:  The deadline to submit items for the newsletter is December 20th.  Please e-mail Wayne Woodtke at his yahoo address.

A question was brought up regarding the difference between submitting items for Pawprints and the website.  The difference is the website information stays there on the website and the Pawprints newsletter is a one shot deal.

Bolles Motors:  A representative from Bolles Motors came and presented us with a $725.00 check that the school earned for the “Drive for the Kids” event that took place at the Harvest Fair.

Teacher’s Report:  Rie Sakai, Intern from Japan, made it safely back to Japan.  She really enjoyed her stay here and will miss everyone.  The PTO presented her with a necklace and a tape of the assembly.  Mrs. Merrow informed us that this was her last PTO meeting and that Mrs. Sinacola will be the new teacher representative along with Mrs. Abrahams.

Principal’s Report:  Mr. Casavant was not present.

Playscape:  The fundraising events scheduled for next year are the Crispy Kreme fundraiser (sometime in Feb.) and a McDonald’s family night (end of March/early April).  The Committee is applying for grants through Savings Bank of Manchester and Ronald McDonald House.  If anyone has any playscape fundraising ideas, please pass them along.

Escape School Video:  The video was not shown.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:59 p.m.
