2004
The
meeting was called to order at 7:06 p.m.
The
LSS Mural was unveiled.
President’s
Report: Ellen Skoly thanked Jennifer and Natalie for
all their hard work and the wonderful job they did in organizing the creation
of the LSS mural. The LSS students did
an awesome job.
Ellen passed on a message from Sue
Ferruolo to remind parents who participated in the teacher’s luncheon to please
claim their dishes that are in the teacher’s lounge.
November 2003 Minutes: Ellen made a motion to pass the December
minutes.
Rock Cats Family Night: Ellen gathered date and time information
regarding The Rock Cats Family Night.
After a brief discussion, it was decided that June 6th
(Sunday afternoon game) was a good day to hold the event. Once she finalizes this with the Rock Cats,
information will be sent home with the students.
Treasurer’s
Report: The budget report was presented.
Board
of Education Meeting: Dave Murray attend this
meeting. He presented us with a handout
regarding the preliminary site plan/preliminary budget cost estimate for the
Vernon Public Schools.
Kids’
Town/Silent Auction: Lori Lawrynowicz indicated
that they still need volunteers to get this event up and running. This event is being held on March 20th
and it is a fun filled day with games and crafts for the children. If anyone can volunteer their time or has
any ideas for games for the children, please contact her or Paula Baran.
Pam Storo spoke on behalf of the
Silent Auction. She presented us with a
handout with a list of basket themes and items. She would like to have each class participate in putting the
auction baskets together. She will be
contacting the room parents to coordinate this. If anyone has any ideas for the silent auction, please contact
her.
Playscape: Julie Marcotte informed us that the two vendors have the
playscape renovation information. Once
the two vendors have created their playscape design, LSS will evaluate each design
and make a determination on which vendor they will choose. On February 23, LSS will present the
playscape design to the Town of Vernon Facilities Committee for approval.
The Crispy Kreme fundraiser is being
held on February 14th and the McDonald’s Family Night fundraiser is
being held on March 24th (from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.)
Teacher’s
Report: Mrs. Abrahams informed us that the Reading
Night is now scheduled for March 18th.
Mrs. Sinacola passed on an idea for
the Kid’s Town Fair. Tracy Levinson,
who has a ceramic studio in Town, is interested in having a booth at the Kid’s
Town Fair. The cost would be $10.00 per
child (30% of the profit would go to LSS) and the child would have their choice
of a ceramic item to paint. Lori and
Paula (the committee chairs for the Kids’ Town Fair) said they would contact
Tracy Levinson.
Principal’s
Report: LSS purchased ceiling hangers to hang
reading stars for the Reading Night event.
The hangers will also be used to display all of the creative artwork
done by the children throughout the school year. The money was in the school budget and the cost to purchase the
hangers was $198.52.
Mr. Casavant informed us that the
CMT results are not in yet. We could
possibly have the CMT results in March.
Mr. Casavant presented us with a “No
Child Left Behind” handout. He also
thanked everyone who made the mural come alive.
Magazine Drive: This is a school sponsored fundraiser and it
begins on January 21st. Any
questions regarding this fundraiser, should be addressed directly to the LSS
office.
Other:
SchoolPop Update: The SchoolPop update was presented. The Leapfrog Odyssey globe was delivered to
the LSS Library on December 19th.
Cash back for Schools: Darlene Murray reported that this fundraiser
is not doing well. LSS is in 4th
place. Remember that every time you
shop at the mall you should hand in your receipts to the service desk (which is
located outside Barnes & Noble) and LSS will receive bonus points.
2004-2005 Committees: Darlene
Murray informed us that Committee sign-ups will be taking place soon. If you are interested in chairing or helping
out with a committee, please let her know.
Ron-a-Roll: This event is being held on March 6th
from 4:30 to 6:30. It is $5.00 per
person/including skate rental ($2.00 profit goes to LSS). If you are not going to skate, you can make
a donation to LSS. Flyers will be going
home with the students this week or the beginning of next week.
Munson Fundraiser: This is a PTO Spring fundraiser and it will
begin next week.
After School Events: Paula Baran addressed the topic of having
after school events for LSS students.
For example, she would be interested in teaching sign language classes
for students who are interested in learning.
Mr. Casavant said he would check with the superintendent of schools to
find out if he would need Board approval for this.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:07
p.m.
