Lake Street School PTO Meeting

November 9, 2004

 

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m.

 

President’s Report:  Ellen Skoly thanked everyone for attending the PTO meeting.  She informed us that Dave Murray will not be joining us this evening.  She asked us to review the Treasurer’s Report and if we have any questions, let her know. 

 

            Ellen Skoly and Darlene Murray spoke to us about a PTO Today two-day conference in Framingham, Massachusetts that they attended last year.  They indicated that the conference was very informative.  They received information about an upcoming conference scheduled for March 11, 2005.  If anyone is interested in attending this two-day conference, let them know.  The PTO will pay for the event.  There is a discounted rate for individuals who register early.  You can also find out more information about this conference and other PTO related information on the following website:  www.PTOToday.com. 

 

October 2004 Minutes:  Ellen Skoly made a motion to pass the October minutes.

 

Pasta Dinner for Josh:  Ellen Skoly informed us that LSS will be hosting a “pasta dinner” fundraiser to raise money for Josh, a 1st grader at LSS, who is recovering from an illness.  Ellen also told us that Josh is doing well and his mom appreciates everything that has been done for Josh and his family.  Ellen will be coordinating this event and is in the process of organizing a committee to assist with the fundraiser.  The pasta dinner will be scheduled during the first week of December.  If you are interested in helping, please let Ellen know. 

 

Treasurer’s Report:  The budget report was presented. 

 

Fundraiser Update:  The Sally Foster fundraiser items can be picked up during parent/teacher conferences on November 18th and 19th.  The Butter Braids were being distributed today. 

 

Education:  Jennifer DiTomasso informed us that Bob Maxon from Channel 30 visited the 1st grade classes to talk about the weather.  The students had a wonderful time.  She had nothing new to report but will keep us updated as things progress.

 

Playscape:  Ellen Skoly thanked Julie Marcotte and the Committee for the meeting they held last week regarding the playscape.  Julie mentioned that the Committee will be meeting with the Town Facilities Committee on February 28th to obtain approval to begin Phase I of the project.  Julie also informed us that beginning in January, the Committee will have monthly meetings.  The Committee is still looking for more volunteers in hopes of forming subcommittees to coordinate certain functions of the development of the playscapeJulie stated that if anyone has any questions, concerns or ideas relating to the playscape, you can contact them directly or send them an e-mail at lssplayscape@hotmail.com

 


Election Day Bake Sale:  Ellen Skoly thanked Terry Tomaszewski and others who volunteered to help make this day a success.  LSS earned about $400.00 in profits from the bake sale ($30.00 was from the sales of the LSS cookbooks).  Darlene Murray also thanked everyone for the baked goods. 

 

Shopping Night at Buckland Mall:  Pam Oliva informed us that as of today, we have raised $440.00 for LSS.  If you are interested in purchasing a ticket(s) for this event, please contact Pam.

 

Drive for the Kids:  Ellen Skoly informed us that this event is being held during parent/teacher conferences on November 18th from 2:30 to 5:30.  Information regarding this event will be sent home with the students. 

 

Book Fair:  Ellen Skoly stated that this event will take place during parent/teacher conferences on November 18th and 19th.  A reminder will be sent home with the students. 

 

Thanksgiving Baskets:  Ellen Skoly informed us that the Room Parents are coordinating this event.  Food items must be delivered to the school by November 19th and all perishable items must be brought to the school first thing in the morning on November 22nd

 

Board of Education:  No update.

 

Teacher’s Report:  Mrs. Sinacola informed us that the teachers had a meeting with Mr. Casavant about the 1st through 3rd grade lunch wave and that they are still monitoring the situation.  There is a good possibility that they will reinstitute a lunch ticket policy wherein students would pre-pay in the morning and get a lunch ticket.  They spoke with the cafeteria helpers and they are in agreement.  A question was brought up about the purchase of milk only.  Mrs. Sinacola said she will look into this and get back to us. 

 

            Mrs. Sinacola also mentioned that the 1st and 2nd grade Thanksgiving Feast is being held on Tuesday, November 23rd.  Information regarding this event will be sent home with the students. 

 

Principal’s Report:  Mr. Casavant discussed briefly and presented us with a handout entitled “Strategic School Profile 2003-04”. 

 

New Business:

 

            Snowflake Fair:  Terry Tomaszewski informed us that the fair is being held during the week of December 6th.  The fair allows the students to purchase gifts for their family members.  The gift items are priced at $3.00 and under.  A flyer will be sent home with the students prior to this event.  If anyone is interested in volunteering their time to help with this event, please contact her.
