Lake Street School PTO Meeting

January 18, 2005

 The meeting was called to order at 7:07 p.m.

 President’s Report:  Ellen Skoly thanked the hospitality committee and parent volunteers who helped with the teacher’s luncheon.  A thank you note from the teachers is on display on the PTO bulletin board outside the LSS office.  The leftover food from the luncheon was delivered by Mr. Testa to the food shelter in town. 

            Ellen informed us of some upcoming events at the school.  Ron-a-Roll family night will be held on February 5th from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.  Silkworms family night will be held on June 10th.  More information on these events will be sent home with the students. 

             Ellen stated that we are still waiting to receive the $800.00 donation from Bolles Motors.  We are still in the process of working out the issues with the Sally Foster fundraiser.   

            Ellen informed us that the 2005 yearbook is complete.  Distribution of the yearbook will be in late May/early June.  A thank you note from one of the students on the yearbook committee is on display on the PTO bulletin board. 

 Munson Candy Fundraiser:  Ellen stated that the order forms and money is due by February 8th.  LSS will receive 40% profit from this fundraiser.

 Box Tops:  All box tops must be sent in by April. 

 Silent Auction:  Darlene Murray informed us that they have received a response from ¼ of the classrooms regarding the chosen theme for their silent auction basket.  The Silent Auction Committee Chairs will be contacting the room parents of the classrooms who they have not heard from regarding their classroom basket. 

 Treasurer’s Report:  The budget report was presented.

 Kidstown Fair:  Paula Baran informed us that the Kidstown Fair is being held on March 12th.  The Committee is looking for people to help organize this event.  If you are interested in helping with this event, the Committee is having a meeting on January 26th from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the teacher’s lounge.  If you cannot make the meeting but would like to help with this event, please contact Paula Baran or Lori Lawrynowicz.

             Paula asked the teacher representatives at the PTO meeting if the teachers would be willing to bake and work the bake sale booths.  Mrs. Abrahams said the teachers would be happy to do so.  Paula also stated that the parent volunteers would work at the food booths.  She also told us that the moon bounce has been donated for the Kidstown Fair.

 Playscape:  Jenny Norris spoke to us about the Bubblemania fundraiser event.  This will take place on April 1st.  She is also looking into possibly having a raffle booth at this event.  More information on this fundraiser will be forthcoming. 

 Education Update:  Jennifer DiTomasso stated that she had no new information at this time except that things are moving along fine. 

 Teacher’s Report:  Mrs. Barry informed us that the kickoff for “Celebrate Year of the Languages” is this week.  In March, the students will be able to travel to different cultural groups that will be displayed in the cafeteria.  Each cultural group will be displaying their type of art, music, dance, language and food.  The teachers will be looking for parent volunteers to help with this event.  More information on this will be sent home with the students.

             Mrs. Barry and Mrs. Sinacola informed us of the upcoming events happening in the school by grade level.  They also stated that the Valentine Day parties will be held on February 14th

             Mrs. Abrahams thanked everyone on the PTO for all their hard work. 

 December 2004 Minutes:  Ellen Skoly made a motion to pass the December minutes.

 Vernon Proposed School Bond Update:  Ellen Skoly introduced Mary Carlson who came to the PTO meeting to discuss the bonding issue and how important it is that the bonding package be voted on and passed.  Mary Carlson stated that she is part of the VOICE Group that was organized to educate people on the school bonding package and how important it is that this bonding package be passed.  She presented us with a Vernon school project description handout explaining the items that are in need of repair, showed us pictures displaying some of these repairs and reminded everyone to vote on March 29th.

             Dave Murray reminded everyone that more information on the bonding package is on the LSS website.
