The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m.
VOICE Update:
Dave Murray reminded everyone to vote on the Vernon School bond package on
March 29th. Dave handed out a flyer regarding the upcoming
referendum. The VOICE Group is looking for volunteers to assist in
getting the word out to Vote “Yes” on March 29th. You can help
by going door to door handing out flyers, calling families to remind them to
vote, or you can place a Vote “Yes” sign on your front yard or hold a sign that
says Vote “Yes” at 375 (Vernon YMCA) or at intersections throughout the Town of
Vernon. If you are interested in helping out in anyway please contact
Dave Murray.
President’s Report: Ellen Skoly informed everyone that we will be voting in May on
the 2005-2006 PTO Board. Please submit nominations at the next month’s
PTO meeting.
Mr. Giard (the art teacher) is looking for volunteers to help
him display the student’s art work prior to Fine Arts Night which will be held
on May 18th. If you are interested in assisting him, please
let him know.
February 2005 Minutes:
Ellen Skoly made a motion to pass the February
minutes.
Treasurer’s Report:
The budget report was presented.
Kidstown/Silent Auction:
Ellen Skoly stated that the Committee is very excited
about the upcoming Kidstown Fair. There will be
two moon bounces, many games to play and a lot of arts & crafts. The
Committee is still looking for volunteers to help the day of the fair. If
you are interested, please let them know.
A flyer came home with the students regarding the silent auction baskets that
will be raffled off the day of the fair. The flyer listed the types of
baskets that will be displayed at the fair and it allows you to purchase
tickets ahead of time. You can also purchase tickets for the raffle
online.
Playscape/Installation Day:
Julie Marcotte informed us that they have chair
people for all the subcommittees. A flyer will be going home with the
students regarding the playscape installation
subcommittees. If you are interested in helping on any of the
subcommittees, please contact the chairperson. Julie stated that things
are going well and that the cement, a bobcat and auger have been donated.
She also reminded everyone that the Town meeting to obtain approval will be
held on March 29th.
The fundraiser for the embossed
brick pavers for the walkway for the playscape will be held in the Spring. You can buy a
brick paver for $100.00 and have it embossed.

Playscape Fundraisers:
Jenny Norris stated that the Bubblemania flyer to
purchase tickets for the event was sent home with the students. The goal
is to sell 400 tickets to have two shows. The cost is $5.00 per
ticket.
Linda Correia will be hosting an Avon
fundraiser. The fundraiser will begin on March 22nd and all
orders must be sent in along with the money by April 7th. LSS
will make a 40% profit off of all sales. All proceeds from the Avon
fundraiser will go to the playscape. Linda is
looking for volunteers to help her bag all the orders. If you are
interested, please let her know.
Education:
Jennifer DiTommaso told us that LSS received a grant
in the amount of $250.00 from the Vernon Arts Council. Jennifer also
spoke about the upcoming March activities: (1) a night animals event for
the 2nd graders; (2) an Instrumental Zoo-Hartford Symphony event for
the 3rd graders; (3) Weatherman John Carroll from Channel 61 event
for the 3rd graders; and (4) a Connecticut Historical Society –
Journey Justice event for the 5th graders. The Books of Honor
event will take place in April.
Teacher’s Report:
Mrs. Barry and Mrs. Sinacola informed us of the
upcoming events happening in the school by grade level. They also
reminded us of the LSS multi-cultural event that will be held on April 6th.
Principal’s Report:
Mr. Testa spoke about Spring pictures and he wanted
the PTO’s thoughts on Fall and Spring pictures.
Board of Education:
Dave Murray wanted to let us know that there is an increase in the upcoming BOE
budget.
New Business:
Ellen Skoly informed us that new procedures have been
put in place for the management of the playground equipment bin. A safety
patrol will ensure that all equipment is placed back in the bin and secured
after recess. Ellen and Darlene Murray are planning on refilling the
playground equipment bin with various balls and equipment that we have in stock
from purchases made last year.
