Meeting
February 14, 2006
The meeting was called to order at 7:03 p.m.
Meeting Minutes: A motion was made to pass the January minutes.
Treasurer’s Report: Paul Gilson distributed the budget for a clarification vote. A motion was made to pass the budget as presented.
Board of Education: Amarjit Buttar advised that the Board presented the budget to Mayor Marmer Thursday. LSS had ½ a Kindergarten teacher submitted and the town will vote. Mr. Buttar is hopeful that Mayor Marmer will approve what the Board has recommended.
Principal’s Report: Mr. Testa distributed and reviewed the LSS Parental Involvement Policy and LSS Parent Involvement Survey 2004-2005 Findings.
He advised that CMT’s begin March 1 – 28th for grades 3-5. Testing will cover reading, math and writing. A letter will go home to parents once dates have been finalized. The writing prompt is held the same date statewide.
The PRIDE bulletin board displays the 31 nominated students who received recognition at the PRIDE assembly for the month.
Teacher’s Report: Mrs. Bernardo and Mrs. Barry presented the reports for each grade on current topics and upcoming events. Most grades enjoyed Valentine celebrations and meeting with buddies.
Playscape: Julie Marcotte provided an update on the playscape. She sent home updates via backpacks for parents to review. The committee is currently formalizing the brick paver fundraiser and the goal is to have each LSS family sell/purchase 3 bricks.
Traffic Safety Update: Jennifer DiTommaso shared notes from Jennifer Werner advising that the following signs will be added to both directions/sides of the school entrance:
School Zone fine doubled, 25 MPH, End School Zone. The 500 Ft. to School signs will be relocated to the appropriate distance.
Ron-A-Roll Family Skate Night: The fundraiser was a success and profited $220.00 for the evening. Julie Marcotte and Jenny Norris were thanked for taking the time during the event to go over the Scrip Program and the playscape plans.
Pizza/Worthington Fundraiser: The fundraiser will start after vacation and will include the sale of frozen pizza and cookie dough.
PTO Survey: A survey was sent to all Vernon PTO presidents to distribute to parents regarding a public school dress code/uniform policy. This will be sent to parents after vacation.
