The meeting was called to order at 7:03pm.
Treasurer’s Report: Paul Gilson reviewed the budget.
A grant from Rockville Bank for the playscape was received.
Non-cash donations need to be reported on the budget reports per tax laws.
Board of Education: Mr. Cullinan, school Superintendent, advised the board on April 10th that he will be resigning.
Staffing for the 2006-2007 school year has started.
The incoming 4th grade class is at the upper limit of the policy for number of students enrolled, therefore no additional classes will be added.
Jennifer Werner asked that spacing within the classrooms be investigated, as the physical space in the classroom is tight. Mr. Buttar asked for her to provide her concerns in writing and he will bring it to the boards attention.
The LSS PTO advised Carol Burke that our school would not be participating in the town wide tag sale this year due to other initiatives already in place.
Principal’s Report: Mr. Testa thanked all those involved with Family Fun Night. It was a big success and families really enjoyed themselves.
The Read-A-Thon held on 3/31 was a huge success. Governor Rell visited along with other guest readers throughout the day. Mr. Testa thanked JoAnn Matson for her extraordinary efforts.
The International Day Fair was a great event that included languages being taught to K-2 and 3-5th grades. The groups rotated through stations throughout the day.
The budget is before the town council and no updates were reported.
Kindergarten Orientation will be held on June 1st and will incorporate PTO information usually presented in the Kindergarten breakfast. The Kindergarten breakfast will not be held this year. There are currently 40 students registered in begin Kindergarten this fall.
Teacher’s Report: The teachers provided an update on all grade levels. They enjoyed International Day and are looking forward to upcoming field trips.
Science Fair: The Science Fair will include a silent auction in addition to the pizza and ice cream social. A chairperson will be needed for the Science Fair next year.
Book Fair: Ellen Skoly currently chairs this event and is looking for a replacement for next year.
Family Fun Night: The next Family Fun Night is scheduled for May 2nd. Fiesta del Norte will play music from 6:30 – 7:30 followed by food and a festive game in the cafeteria until 8:30.
Playscape: The kickoff for Pavers for Playscape occurred this week and students were very enthusiastic seeing all the new pieces of equipment scheduled to be installed. Julie provided an update on grants. The completion date for installation is fall of 2006.
Cub Scouts: The scouts enjoyed the annual Blue and Gild dinner. Pack Olympics will be held at Lake Street School on April 30th.
Spring Books of Honor: The are 27 new items on the list. Forms are due back by April 13th.
McDonald’s Night: We hope to have an update from Ellen Skoly by the next meeting.
