Lake Street School PTO, Inc. Meeting

September 12, 2006

The meeting was called to order at 7:04 p.m.

Jennifer DiTommaso welcomed everyone and introduced members of the PTO board.  She thanked the teachers and volunteers for their efforts in making the Ice-Cream Social a success.

Treasurer’s Report:  Paul Gilson reviewed the budget.  He compared last year’s figures to the projections for the coming year.  He noted that some of the fundraising items had been removed.  A motion was made to pass the budget.

(The fire alarm was triggered and the meeting was delayed 20 minutes while the group was evacuated, the response teams arrived and deemed the building safe to return.)

Principal’s Report:  Mr. Testa thanked the PTO and volunteers for the teacher luncheon.

Open house will be September 20th and will begin in the gym.

Due to the town budget, LSS lost two paraprofessionals, an ecology teacher, $1400 for science field trips and computer software.  All Vernon schools were impacted.

Board of Education:  Amarjit Buttar advised that the board will continue looking for a school superintendent throughout the school year.  This added time will ensure that they find the most fully qualified person for the role.

He asked that anyone with any issues or concerns should be brought to his attention in writing so he can take them to the board and will respond back the same way.  Mr. Testa will provide his email address.

Fall Fundraiser:  Packets were sent home last week for the Genevieve’s Fall Fundraiser.  This is the biggest fundraiser of the year and parents are encouraged to support the effort.  Monetary donations may be made in place of ordering and are tax deductible due to our 501(c)3 status.

Scrip is our second biggest income and further information detailing the program will be available during open house.

Butterbraids and frozen cookie dough fundraising will begin the end of September and will run for a few weeks.

PAWS to Read:  The program will start October 1st.

Playscape:  Money for the concrete work is public money and needed to go to bid.  The bids that came back exceeded the money that was available therefore the town will help do some of the work.

PTO Website:  Efforts will be made to maintain the website with current information.  The address is WWW.LSS-PTO.COM.

Boy Scout Pack 221 – Dave Murray encouraged new members to sign up and information will be available during Open House.

LSS Floors -   Mr. Testa advised that the town Building Committee has scheduled the new flooring to be installed the end of the school year.

The meeting adjourned at 8:02 p.m.
