Meeting
October 17, 2006
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m.
Treasurer’s Report: Paul Gilson reviewed the new format of the budget report which will include actual, budgeted and prior year columns. The playscape received a generous donation from Pratt & Whitney.
Meeting Minutes: A motion was made to pass the September minutes.
Principal’s Report: A new program for students began which is similar to last years PRIDE program. The program is titled BEST which will look at student’s behavior, effort, scholarship and trustworthiness. Parents of children receiving the BEST award each month will be invited to attend the assembly.
Student Council will be organizing a drug free initiative with the students and will have designated days to wear colors to support the effort.
HVCC: Executive Director Mr. Engleson of the Hockanum Valley Community Council spoke on the need in our communities for Thanksgiving food donations for families in need. Currently there are 350 families in need for Thanksgiving and 440 in need for the Christmas season. Food items and gift cards to purchase perishables are requested. HVCC is a 501(c)3 and they are able to provide receipts for donations if requested.
Fall Fundraiser: Orders will be available in three weeks. Total sales were approximately $11,000 and the school made a profit of approximately $5,000.
Butterbraids: Profits will go towards the Matson Scholarship and items will be available for pick up at the November PTO meeting. The school received a $1676.52 profit.
Family Fun Night: Family Fun Night will be on November 9 from 6:30-8:00 and will be free for the entire family. Snacks, crafts, games and entertainment will be provided.
Playscape: Julie Marcotte provided an update on the playscape. Phase 2a will occur the weekends of November 11th and 18th. Volunteers are needed and forms will be sent home for parents willing to donate their time and talents.
Bookfair: The fall bookfair will be held during November conferences.
Bolles Motors: Parents are encouraged to fill out a Bolles Motor form on November 16th during conferences. The school receives $5 for each form up to a maximum of $800 from Bolles Motors.
Scrip Program: The program continues to bring revenue to our school and parents were encouraged to use the program and to participate in the $100 free Scrip drawing.
McDonald’s Night: Ellen Skoly is working with teachers and McDonalds to coordinate a fundraiser to benefit the playscape. It was determined that November 29th would be a good date for this event. More details will be provided once finalized.
Pack 221 – They had a hike last weekend and will have a Halloween party next Tuesday. They are currently holding a popcorn sale fundraiser.
New Business: It was noted that LSS currently complies with the Statewide School Wellness program. Our only change will be that food items may not be sent home with students.
