Lake Street School PTO, Inc. Meeting

February 13, 2007

 

The meeting was called to order at 7:06 pm.

 

Meeting Minutes:   A motion was made to pass the December minutes.

 

Principal’s Report:  Mr. Testa handed out copies of the Home School Compact Letter.  He is open to any changes & suggestions.  Please feel free to contact him if you have any.

 

A tentative CMT schedule has been set.  Children in 3rd-5th will be tested in reading, writing, math and science is being added this year.

 

Mr. Testa has had the pleasure to sit in on some reading/writing prompts and is pleased to see the progress in the students.

 

It was reported that the 2nd grade classes will be receiving 2 Smart boards, 2 lap tops and a DVD/VCR, all from the State of CT grant. 

 

Books of Honor:  Joe Culos will be coordinating the Books of Honor Program this year.  Rather then doing one in the fall and one in the spring, there will only be one in the spring.

 

Paws to Read:  It was reported that Mrs. Bernardo’s class was the only class to have 100 percent participation, however they did not achieve that status.  215 students signed up at the beginning of the year, approximately 180 are completing them every month. 

 

School Wellness Policy:  Effective in the 2007-2008 school year, the school wellness policy will be affecting fundraising efforts.  Students will not be allowed to take home food from fundraisers, they will have to be picked up by the parent.  To get all the latest info on the new Act go to http://www.cga.ct.gov/2006/ACT/PA/2006PA-0063-R00SB-00373-PA.htm

Playscape:  Michelle Spadaccini is coordinating sending out letters to local businesses to look for donations of money, items for an auction, etc.  Help is needed to contact businesses.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Paul Gilson reviewed highlights from the previous month.  The money from the book fair was transferred to the playscape fund.

 

Family Fun Night:  This year’s theme will be Country Western.  As always, there will be auction items and class baskets raffled off.

 

Cub Scouts:  The Scouts held their Pinewood Derby at VCMS.  Their Blue & Gold Banquet will be held on March 9th at VCMS.

 

Other Business:  Possible fundraiser to be held at Papa Gino’s.

 

Mr. Testa reported that as of now there are 6 finalists for the Superintendents position.
