Approved Healthy Snack List 2008/20009
Guidelines from the Wellness Committee
(as written in the Vernon Schools Handbook)
The School Wellness Council wants to encourage our students to make healthy lifestyle choices. It is hoped that by following the suggestions below, we will encourage healthy eating habits consistent with our Wellness Guidelines and Health curriculum. Parents would be notified if this list needed to be adjusted due to a specific food allergy in an individual classroom.

Healthy Snacks

The School Wellness Council also supports “food free” birthday celebrations. A student’s birthday is a special day and each class will choose activities to recognize this important day. We ask that parents do not send in food for their child’s birthday.

LAKE STREET SCHOOL

Due to the number of tree nut/peanut allergies, we will continue not to include tree nuts/peanuts/peanut butter as part of the snacks at Lake Street School. Items like peanut butter and crackers and foods that overtly contain tree nuts/peanuts/peanut butter are not on the snack list. But, foods that say MAY contain traces of tree nuts/peanuts or items that have been processed on a machine which also processes tree nuts/peanuts are okay.

If modifications in the snack list need to be made for a particular food allergy it will be consistent within the grade level. Therefore, because of a student with a severe milk/dairy allergy who will be entering KINDERGARTEN this year, cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt and all dairy products are not on the KINDERGARTEN snack list.

Thank you for your continued cooperation.
