Nurse's Report
How do I tell if my child is sick enough to stay home from school?
Early mornings while trying to get everyone out the door and off to where they belong are hectic for most families. It is compounded when one of the children says, “I don’t feel well.” Should you send your child to school or not? There are a couple basic rules that I recommend. They are:

  • If a child has had a fever of 100 degrees or higher in the past 24 hours, he or she should remain at home.
  • If a child has vomited in the past 24 hours, he or she should remain home.
  • If a child has a juicy cold with coughing and sneezing he or she should stay home rather than coming in and possibly spreading germs. Think about it this way, would you want this student sitting next to your son or daughter?
  • Anyone who has a streptococcal infection must be on an antibiotic for 24 hours before returning to school.

Sometimes it is difficult to tell whether a student is ill or whether he or she just doesn’t want to go to school. I quite often have this same concern when a student comes to see me and I just don’t see anything wrong with the child. So we will all do the best that we can and forgive each other when we send them home from school when they are not ill and send them to school when they are. Any questions please feel free to call me at 870-6088.
