What is a “Shopping Card”
program?
Shopping cards are also known as scrip which is simply a term that means “substitute
money”. When you purchase shopping cards, you’re purchasing gift
certificates and gift cards that are used just like cash. You can use them to
purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials, and with
every purchase, you earn revenue for our organization.
How the program generates revenue for Lake Street
School
These shopping cards are the same cards that you would get if you purchased
them directly from the store. They look the same because they are the same.
The only difference is you purchase the card through the PTO instead of from
the store directly. Let’s say you bought a $75 shopping card, it would
cost you $75 and then is redeemable at the store for the full $75. Since you
bought the cards through the PTO, the PTO gets a commission on the sale and
you get a card for the full value. The school raises money by purchasing the
cards at a discount through Great Lakes Scrip, not by charging you anything
extra for the cards!
Shopping card fundraising
Shopping cards are a popular fundraiser because families
don’t have to sell anything or buy anything they wouldn’t ordinarily
buy. Groceries, clothing, toys, gifts, even gasoline can be purchased with shopping
cards. Lake Street School families produce revenue by making regular household
purchases they would make anyway.
Here’s an example:
If 100 LSS families purchased $200.00 in just grocery cards every two weeks,
our school would received $13,600.00 by the end of the school year. If you add
in holiday shopping, birthdays, restaurants, household goods, gas etc., we could
generate enough revenue from this program alone so as NOT TO HAVE ANY OTHER
FUNDRAISERS.
How do I place an order?
The Shopping Card Order forms will be sent home every two
weeks throughout the school year. You can also download the form from the link
at the top of this page. Complete the order form and send it back to school
along with your payment (check or credit card/Paypal). Shopping Cards will be
sent home with your child or you can pick them up in the school office. It’s
that easy!! Click here for instruction
on how to complete the order form.
